A video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has reignited discussions about language usage in public institutions, particularly banks. The clip, showing a heated argument between a customer and a bank manager in Kolar, Karnataka, highlights tensions between Hindi and Kannada.

In the video, a customer questions why bank service slips are only available in Hindi and English, not Kannada. The exchange escalates when the bank manager responds, “India mein Hindi chaltha hai. Hindi baat karo” (Hindi is spoken across India. Speak Hindi). The customer retorts, pointing out that if Hindi is so dominant, then why isn’t Kannada also accommodated.

The argument intensifies with both sides defending their language preferences. One customer insists that language is crucial for understanding services, while another suggests that the issue is more about money than language.

Social media reactions have been mixed. Some users argue that banks should accommodate regional languages to better serve rural customers, while others see the debate as an overblown issue.
