Kolar: Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has cancelled his visit to Kolar city, where he was scheduled to attend the fourth annual convocation of Bangalore North University on Monday, 2nd September. The Raj Bhavan office confirmed the cancellation on Sunday afternoon, citing unavoidable reasons.

The Governor’s visit had been overshadowed by controversy, particularly due to the ongoing hearing of a petition filed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the Muda case, set to continue in the High Court on Monday. Additionally, leaders of the Ahinda Alliance within the Congress Party had threatened to protest the Governor’s visit by displaying black flags, accusing him of acting as a BJP agent after he granted permission for the prosecution of the Chief Minister.

The cancellation is perceived as a precautionary measure to prevent potential unrest. The police and district administration had made elaborate security arrangements for the Governor’s visit, which are now unnecessary. Despite the Governor’s absence, the convocation will proceed as scheduled at Nandini Palace, on the outskirts of Kolar city, at 11 am on Monday, with Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.C. Niranjan Vanalli and Higher Education Minister presiding over the ceremony.

In response to the cancellation, Congress leaders have announced that they will hold another meeting on Monday morning to discuss the nature of their protest. The university has already distributed invitation letters for the convocation, which will continue as planned despite the Governor’s absence.
