Koppal police have arrested seven men in connection with the savage killing of 35-year-old daily wage laborer Channappa Husenappa Narinal, an incident shockingly recorded on video. The violent attack is believed to stem from a long-running property dispute and family rivalry.
The suspects—Ravi, Pradeep, Manjunath (two individuals with this name), Nagaraj, Gautham, and Pramod—were taken into custody after the murder that occurred on Saturday night around 10 pm near LJ Iyengar Bakery, close to Sindhanur Circle and just under a kilometer from the local police station.
CCTV footage from the bakery shows the attackers assaulting Channappa with swords and machetes, striking his neck, head, back, and limbs. The group began the attack inside the bakery before dragging him outside, continuing the assault until he died on the spot. The entire violent episode lasted less than two minutes before the attackers fled.
A bystander’s mobile recording reveals a large crowd gathered, with Channappa lying in a pool of blood. An elderly woman, likely a family member, is seen crying and wailing beside his body.
Police have registered cases against all accused under charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, and abetment with common intent. The victim’s elder brother, Durugappa Narinal, filed the complaint, stating the family’s ongoing land dispute with rivals. He alleged that Ravi Narinal had recently threatened to kill someone from their family.
