Lokayukta officials apprehended Dastagir Ali, the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Koppal, for accepting a bribe of ₹2,000 at his office within the district administration building.
The arrest followed a complaint by Bheemanagouda from Gadag district, who reported that Ali demanded money in exchange for issuing an NGO certificate. Acting on this information, Lokayukta Inspector Nagaratna and her team, under the supervision of Raichur Lokayukta SP Shashidhar, conducted a sting operation, catching Ali in the act of accepting the bribe.
Upon being caught, Ali attempted to destroy the evidence by swallowing the currency notes. Lokayukta officers had to exert considerable effort to retrieve the ingested money.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in combating corruption within government departments, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and enforcement by anti-corruption agencies.
