Koppal: In a significant anti-drug operation, Koppal district police have confiscated 1.8 kg of hydro ganja being illicitly transported for distribution in Gangavathi. Eight individuals have been apprehended in connection with the bust, Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arshiddi confirmed during a press briefing held on Wednesday.

The police action was initiated following a specific intelligence alert. Based on the tip-off, law enforcement officials intercepted two cars near Government ITI College in Gangavathi, where the accused were allegedly trying to trade the banned narcotic.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the high-grade ganja, commonly known as hydro cannabis, was illegally brought into the country from Thailand. The seized contraband holds a street value of approximately ₹18.06 lakh, according to police estimates.

Eight suspects were taken into custody during the raid. The accused have been identified as Saujesh K.K. (28), Salim P.P. (27), B. Durga Prasad (27), Bad Shah (32), Madan (26), Surya Pratap Reddy (19), Muhammad Hameed (22), and Manikantha (23). Notably, three of the arrested hail from Kerala.

The vehicles used for smuggling the drugs have also been impounded. A formal FIR has been filed at Gangavathi Town Police Station, and a detailed probe is in progress to trace further connections to organized drug trafficking syndicates.

Authorities have vowed stringent action and are working to dismantle the network behind the illegal trade.
