HUBBALLI: The Koppal traffic police have seized a car owned by MLA Janardhana Reddy for allegedly breaching security protocols during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Gangavathi on Saturday. Alongside Reddy’s vehicle, two additional cars belonging to his supporters were also confiscated.
In a swift response, a police team traveled to Bengaluru to retrieve the three vehicles, which have now been secured at the Gangavathi police station in Koppal district. The drivers of these cars have been charged with offenses related to the security breach.
According to police reports, Reddy was informed about the seizure while he was in Bengaluru. The incident occurred as Siddaramaiah was returning to Gangavathi to catch a flight to Bengaluru. Reddy, who represents Gangavathi, found himself stuck in traffic due to the CM’s convoy. It is alleged that he instructed his driver to cross the road median and switch to the opposing lane, with his supporters following suit.
Witnesses reported that people cheered for Reddy when the CM’s convoy temporarily halted to let the three vehicles pass. Koppal district in-charge minister Shivaraj Tangadagi criticized Reddy’s actions, while Reddy defended himself, asserting that the maneuver was unintentional.
“I waited for half an hour in traffic. I can prove it with CCTV footage. I was returning from Sandur after a campaign and had to attend some rituals at home. I didn’t want to request police assistance to avoid chaos. Unfortunately, as we switched lanes, the CM’s convoy arrived,” Reddy explained.
