In Bandi Harlapur village of Koppal taluk, Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans turned their long-held dream into a community celebration. Following RCB’s historic IPL win on June 3 — breaking an 18-year title drought — the youth of the village fulfilled a vow (harake) by hosting a grand non-vegetarian feast for their entire community.

The celebration, however, was delayed out of respect for the lives lost in the tragic stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on the night of the final. The villagers began the event with prayers for the 11 victims and well-wishes for the injured.

In true traditional style, the feast was announced by beating the dangura and ringing a large bell, inviting everyone through the streets. Around 3,000 residents out of the 7,000-strong village turned up for the occasion. While chicken and pulav formed the centerpiece of the menu, vegetarian options were also prepared to ensure inclusivity.

The event was fully funded by villagers, showcasing their unity and enthusiasm. Before the food was served, a symbolic trophy was lifted high, with loud cheers echoing for RCB’s long-awaited victory.

“We had made a promise — if RCB won, we would feed the entire village,” said organiser Raju Yadav. “Though we wanted to celebrate immediately, we chose to honour those who lost their lives first. Only after paying our respects did we begin our celebrations.”
