KOPPAL: In a heart-wrenching yet inspiring incident, a Class X student from Koppal district displayed extraordinary courage by appearing for his SSLC exam just hours after his mother’s death.
Adiveppa Swamy, a student of Vivekananda School in Kesarahatti village, Gangavati taluk, lost his mother Vijayalaxmi early on Friday, March 21. Vijayalaxmi, who had been caring for Adiveppa since his father’s death a few years ago, suffered a fatal head injury after slipping in the bathroom. Despite undergoing surgery at Hubballi’s KIMS hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
While relatives and villagers gathered at Adiveppa’s home, convinced he would skip the exam, the young boy surprised everyone by firmly deciding to proceed with the test. Even as family members and well-wishers urged him to stay back, Adiveppa insisted on fulfilling his duty as a student before performing his mother’s funeral rites.
Teachers who visited his home encouraged his brave decision, standing by him as he went to write his first exam. Following the exam, Adiveppa returned home and conducted his mother’s last rites.
Villagers expressed initial shock at his choice but later admired his strength and determination. “We were first angry, but later proud of his bravery. It’s a lesson in facing life’s hardships head-on,” they said.
