Chikkamagaluru: In a tragic incident, a man was killed when a borewell lorry overturned on his car near Koranahalli in Birur. In the afternoon, Darshan, a resident of Basappa Layout in Birur town, had a farm in Sokke village of Ajjampura taluk and had gone to the farm in the afternoon.
Those who were leaving from Beerur were passing through Koranahalli village and were travelling on the Hunsaghatta route when they saw a bridge in the middle of the road and a lorry coming from the opposite direction. As there was enough space on the bridge for only one vehicle to move, the car was parked behind the bridge, leaving space for the lorry.
The lorry coming from the opposite direction was passing the car and taking a turn when the bore lorry skidded off the road and fell on top of the car. Darshan died on the spot after the iron pipes in the lorry fell on the car. As the bore lorry weighed heavily, the Beerur police used a crane and a JCB to carry out the operation but could not pull out the body. Darshan had been working as a JCI member and president for the past several years with a social stigma in the town limits. In addition, he had gained a lot of trust with everyone in the town. Birur police, who rushed to the spot after receiving the news, have registered a case and are investigating.
