Chikkamagaluru: Under the market intervention scheme for the year 2022 – 23, Rs. 10,000 per quintal will be given for the purchase of turmeric from the Central Government.
A delegation of turmeric growers from the State had submitted a memorandum to Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje to purchase the turmeric crop under the market arbitration scheme due to fall in prices in the market. Responding to the request, the minister ordered the department officials to take appropriate action.
An order was issued by the Centre and relief has been provided by the Central Government for the plight of the farmers of the turmeric crop.
The prevailing market rate for the turmeric crop is Rs. 10,000 per quintal. At present, the support price announced by the Central Government is Rs 6694 per quintal. Therefore, farmers will get an estimated Rs. 10,000 per quintal from the market entry of Central Government scheme and profits range from Rs.1400 to Rs.1500.
Farmers in Chamarajanagara, Belagavi, Bagalakote, Bidar and Kalaburagi Districts will be benefited by the Central Government’s order.
