Kalasa: The Villagers of Hirebailu staged a protest on Monday March 13 by laying siege to Hirebailu Panchayat, protesting against the delay in the work on the Anekadu Water Project sanctioned to supply drinking water to Hirebailu Village.
The work to supply water from Anekadu Area under Marasanige Village to Hirebailu Village started at a cost of Rs. 48 Lakh and was to be completed by now. But the work is stuck and there is no hope of water reaching Hirebailu.
“We are suffering from lack of drinking water in summers and who is responsible for this,” the villagers said.
Addressing the villagers, Gram Panchayat President Jagadish Bhandari said that the work on the Anekadu Project to provide water to Hirebailu had started but the contractor had not completed the work. He clarified to the villagers that he had called the zilla panchayat engineers in this regard but they were not giving proper answers.
Not satisfied with this, the villagers insisted that the Zilla Panchayat engineer should come to the spot. Nataraj, a junior engineer who came to the spot after some time, was reprimanded by the villagers.
The engineer promised to complete the pipeline work of the Anekadu project in 2 weeks and release water to Hirebailu, when the villagers said that they don’t trust him, Panchayat President Jagadish intervened and promised to supply water within 15 days after completing the pipeline work of the Anekadu Project.
