Chikkamagaluru: Election wave, sarees-liquor-ganja-gold seized

Chikkamagaluru: District Deputy Commissioner K. N. Ramesh said that around Rs. 2.7 Crore has been seized from various operations wherein gold ornaments, sarees, cookers, liquor and drugs were take into possession.

Addressing a press conference here, he said that in an operation led by District Police Chief Uma Prashanth Rs. 25,81,83,388 worth assets were seized from a pickup vehicle at Tarikere town check post. A total of 9.332 kgs of gold ornaments worth Rs. 1,000 have been seized. Of this, 546 grams weighing gold biscuit were also found.

A total of 1183 sarees and 281 cookers without proper documents were seized by the Special Task Force (STF) officials in Sringeri and Chikkamagaluru areas.
Of these, 666 sarees were seized from a logistic godown at Jayanagar Bada Vane opposite KSRTC bus depot in the Town. It was sent in the name of factory owner in Surat, Gujarat.

Since there were no proper documents related to these sarees and no one came forward claiming it, they were also seized by the commercial tax authorities and the investigation is on, he said.

In Sringeri, 236 sarees, 281 cookers and 181 fans and other items were seized for not having proper documents.

The GST number related to this is related to a dealer in Koppa. The bill is in the name of a person from Bangalore. Also, without GST and without proper bills, why is such a large quantity of goods stored in the garden? No political party symbol was found on it, he said, adding that an investigation was underway.

In Sringeri Taluk from March 20 to 24 approximately 56.49 litres of liquor worth Rs. 21984 and in Mudigere Taluk 49 litres of liquor worth Rs. 21395, in Chikkamagaluru Taluk 87 litres of liquor worth Rs. 34304, in Tarikere Taluk 67 litres of liquor worth Rs. 25181, and in Kadur Taluk 63 litres of liquor worth Rs. 28,632 have been seized.

During the same period, Rs. 5,000 was collected in Sringeri Taluk, Rs. 40,000 in Mudigere Taluk and Rs 4.33 Lakh in Chikkamagaluru Taluk. He said that drugs such as ganja and MDMA have been seized.
