The accused have been identified as Ajjampura Police Station Sub-Inspector Lingaraju, police constables Dhanapal Naik, Omkara Murthy and Sarath Raj.

According to the complaint filed by Rohit, son of wholesale jeweller Bhagavan of Davanagere, he was going to Belur to deliver 2.450 kgs of gold ornaments to jewellers in a car on Thursday November 17.

The Sub-Inspector threatened that he would book a false case of gold smuggling and demanded Rs. 10 lakh bribe. Despite Rohit showing a GST bill for the jewellery, the SI forcibly took the car to a secluded place and tried to manhandle him. When he said he has no money, he sent two constables to Belur Jewellery shop to collect Rs. 5 lakh.

The complaint stated that Sub-Inspector threatened to arrest him and present him in court on charges of illegal transportation. On Saturday, Rohit filed a complaint with Chikkamagaluru SP Hakay Akshay Machindra who immediately ordered to register FIR against all four accused. All four accused absconding after the incident.
