Chikamagaluru: The heavy rains continued to lash Chikamagaluru district even on Friday. The rain that has been lashing over the last one week has unleashed havoc in the region.

Two persons have lost lives in the floods in Chikamagaluru. On Thursday evening a 40-year-old man died after he ventured into his water logged field on Thursday night.

While landslide on Charmadi Ghat has closed the stretch, even Sringeri-Mangaluru route has been closed.

Huge boulders, loose mud and tree branches have fallen on the road, cutting off connection between the Malnad and the coastal districts.

The workers are clearing the road, said sources.

Similarly, the Sringeri-Mangaluru route too has been cut off after Gandhi Maidan near Sringeri was inundated due to heavy rains. Kappe Shankara temple here too has been inundated. Flood in River Tunga has left people living on the river banks in trouble.

Even Balehonnur city is facing threat of flood due to swollen River Bhadra. Balehonnur-Kalasa road has been cut off. Flood-like situation continues in Mudigere, Koppa, NR Pura too.
