C’magaluru woman who returned from Australia did not die of COVID-19

Chikkamagaluru: Though the initial reports claimed that a woman who returned from Australia died in Chikamagalur on Thursday evening owing to COVID-19, the district administration has refuted the claim.

The incident, which was considered as the first COVID-19 case of Malnad had left the entire region in fear. However, Deputy Commissioner Dr Bagadi Gautham has confirmed that the death of the lady is not linked to COVID-19.

“Her throat swab samples were sent for tests and the reports are negative,” said the DC.

According to the sources, the 62-year-old woman who had recently returned from Australia developed diarrhea and was being taken to a Bengaluru hospital from Chikkamagalur, when she died on the way.

The lady had returned from Australia on March 1 and she did not even opt for home quarantine.
