Chikkamagaluru: Revenue Minister R. Ashok said that the election code of conduct is the current impediment to provide relief to farmers whose crop has been destroyed. Despite the same, I have sought permission to provide the relief which will be made available to farmers as early as possible, he added.

He was speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday November 18. He said that the relief to be provided is in the time of crores, and therefore, due permission has been sought. If permitted 100 per cent of relief would be provided, he assured.

Further, he asked the officers to go on their own to survey the crops that have been destroyed due to rains, and not take along politicians or wait for them to make a visit to such region. He also noted that in districts such as Belagavi, Bagalkot, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Gadaga, the destruction has been the highest in the State, and added that in Belagavi around 76000 farmers have faced destruction to their crops while 20000 farmers in Bagalkot suffering the same fate. I have the files of the same as if not the code of conduct the relief would have been distributed on this day, he said.
