Chikkamagaluru: Several days after the district police cracked the whip on betting business in the district and arrested kingpin of the trade, also alleged to be a close aide of MLA C T Ravi, a response came from the MLA himself.

Lauding the police for their operation and nabbing a Member of City Municipal Council named Ravi in connection to the betting racket, MLA C T Ravi said that there is no way that he would be supporting anything that is anti-social or illegal.

While congratulating the district Superintendent of Police for the arrests, the MLA said that the ones that have been nabbed are only small fish in the ocean. The sharks are yet to go behind the bars.

He also urged the SP to take cognizance of the instances where police are threatening some people about their names being included in the betting racket and thus eking out money from them.

“There needs to be a detailed probe on the functioning of the racket and involvement of the police officers too,” he said adding that the BJP is not connected to the business in any way.

He clarified that his name has been unnecessarily linked in this episode by some vested interest who want to dent his image. “The case must be probed in a free and fair manner.Action must be taken against those involved in this trade and ones supporting the same,” Ravi said.
