Chikkamagaluru: The District police has cracked a high-profile online betting case and arrested close aide of BJP MLA C T Ravi and six others here on February 4.
It is learnt that online betting was carried out since last 2 years in Chikkamagaluru by Ravikumar alias Kayi Ravi, an aide of the MLA and town municipal council member. What is surprising is that CT Ravi has been making tall claims of how betting has stopped due to PM’s demonetisation move.
DCIB police on Saturday raided betting den and TV, Laptop, mobile phone and cash in lakhs have been seized. It is learnt that Ravi had betting connections from Mumbai and Delhi. Along with Ravi, police have arrested Abhi, Prashanth, Venkatesh, Afzal and Mohan. Interestingly, Kayi Ravi’s name was mentioned in Kallappa Handibhag extortion and suicide case and CID officials had interrogated him.
The raid was carried out following complaint by Arvind Kuduvalli. An FIR has been registered in this regard under section 66(D), 420, 120(B)APC, 78(3). It is learnt that two more accused in the case are absconding.
SP Annamalai said that several politicians too are involved in betting and has promised strict action against the accused.
