Chikkamagaluru: Police have succeeded in foiling a major attempt by naxalite outfits to blowup district administration offices during this month in Coastal and Malnad districts as more explosive details emerged after nabbing their kingpin.
Ramesh alias Shivakumar, originally a resident of Raichur in North Karnataka is involved in naxalite activities since 2006 was brought to Chikkamagaluru for further investigation.

According to district Superintendent of Police Annamalai, the kingpin revealed explosive details and more details are likely to emerge during the course of investigations which police found shocking from their own perspective. Involved in multiple naxal attacks in the region over the years, kingpin Ramesh alias Shivakumar led a team of people in carrying out his naxalite activities. They targeted specific areas in Chikkamagaluru, Udupi and Mangaluru and pasted naxal posters on the walls in and around naxal prone town of Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru district few months ago.

Revealing the information, district SP Annamalai said, search teams were formed to nab the naxalites involved based on the threats and police found out that it was the handiwork of Ramesh alias Shivakumar. During interrogation the police were shocked to know that the naxalites planned to blow up important district administration offices by this month end in coastal and Malnad districts by using explosives. Earlier lodged in a jail at Raichur, Ramesh was nabbed in JP Nagar area of Bengaluru and is now under police custody for 10 days during which time police are trying to collect more leads and links on the modus operandi of other naxalites involved.

He married a naxalite woman by name Parvathi who was later killed in an encounter. Ramesh did not get an opportunity to see her dead body nor take part in her funeral after her death.

Based on the information given by Ramesh alias Shivakumar, the police are likely to intensify combing operations in the district for which the state home minister G Parameshawara is the district in-charge minister.

With the kingpin’s arrest, police have foiled a major attempt to destabilize official government machinery and damage on lives and property.
