Chikkamagluru: Rathnagiri Bore is one of the prime weekend spots where once toddlers to seniors citizens spent their recreation time relishing the beauty of nature with many hills providing ideal back drop to the picturesque location.
However, everything has changed in the last five years though the “security” in the area remains intact. Regular walkers and joggers who spend their day and families weekends have only one question in their minds, “What’s wrong?” The question reflects their frustration as the beauty and the fragrance which once surrounded the area has suddenly vanished with situation going from bad to worse.
Many sandalwood trees were planted to enhance the beauty of the location few years ago. In the last few days, lumberjacks have axed around 10 full grown sandal wood trees converting the area into a barren land. The security men guarding the area evade questions from regular visitors on sandalwood tree felling and advise them to “mind their own business.”
Frustrated by the development, people who have developed a special attachment to the location are planning to take up the issue with the district administration. Locals in the area are demanding a thorough investigation into all “unnatural incidents” which has converted Rathnagiri Bore, once a pristine location into “bare and bore” spot!
