Hassan: The cyber police nabbed a man in relation to an alleged case of blackmail by using obscene images of women on social media platforms.

Accused Prashant Rajashekhar Varma has been nabbed by Cyber sleuths, on Saturday, December 7.

The other three accused, who had supported Prashanth are absconding. The police have informed that Prashanth and his associates were allegedly using the photos of girls and women from Facebook and morphing it with obscene images and later blackmailing the victims for money.

According to the reports, one of the victims had filed a complaint with the police on December 7.

In the complaint, the victim had said that a woman named Pavitra had made a phone call to her and said that a person named Mahesh Kulkarni had all her obscene photographs and had sent the same to her. The woman had also informed the victim to call another woman named Swati to have the images deleted from social media.

Frightened by this, the victim had immediately called Swati and had requested to delete all her photographs and videos. Swati had the forwarded her a man named Pritham’s number and asked her to request him to delete the pictures.

When the victim called Pritham, he demanded Rs 22,000. However, the victim could send only Rs 17,000 to an account, which was in the name of B C Shivanand.

After several days, Pritam called the victim again and demanded for Rs 50, 000 if she wanted her obscene photos to be deleted from the social media. At this point, the victim informed her parents,  who then filed a complaint with the Cyber Police.

The police have informed that accused Prashanth was nabbed, but they were unable to trace Pritam, Swati, Pavitra, and B C Shivanand. The police suspect that this racket is spread across Vijaypura, Belagavi, Mumbai and other places.

The police are investigating the case.
