Belur: An incident took place at night in Surakhodu Village where a herd of wildebeast destroyed a banana and nut plantation and caused a loss of thousands of rupees.
The banana farm of Annappa Shetty and Arun of Arehalli Hobli Surakkodu Village in Belur Taluk was attacked by an elephant. He had grown bananas in four acres. The fruit had matured and reached the harvest stage. But wild herds have almost destroyed the plantation. The plant was uprooted and the pulp was eaten. More plants were trampled. It is assumed that the elephants came from Arehalli area.
On this occasion, farmer Annappa Shetty said that crops worth lakhs are destroyed every year due to elephant attacks in this part. To find a permanent solution to avoid elephant attack, Forest Department officials in Yuvalli are counting fish.
Still Belur Vidhan Sabha candidates are spending lakhs of rupees for the election but no one like us is willing to listen to the plight of those who have destroyed the paddy fields, elephant attacks have been going on in Bikkodu Arehalli parts for almost years now. The workers have lost their lives due to the elephants. Despite this is the reason why the officials concerned have not moved the elephants.
The villagers of Arehalli Bikkodu area have demanded that permanent action should be taken to avoid the attack.
