Hassan: Senior Writer and Film Director Dr. Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar said that language is not just a sound, it is an expression of the soul.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 21st District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised at the Kadambari Sarvabhouma Anakru Vedike in the Town by planting ragi saplings. “Only if we assimilate our proud Kannada with warmth will it have a price and a place. Language cannot grow out of speeches, he said and added that it would grow only if it is used.

“Villages are no longer villages today but are surrounded by ugliness and deformity. We have gone through the heat of objecting to social networking sites and are in a dilemma where we have to accept it. But children need to be taught how to use them in the right way,” he said. Forgetting the roots of mankind will be a great loss for the future, he said and added that Sahitya Sammelana are a good platform to prove collectively that Kannadigas are one.

Speaking on the occasion, Orator Hiremagalur Kannan said, “the people who eat rice from the Kannada State should be reminded of the paddy of this land. If the seedlings are broken, the transplanted paddy will rot. The same thing is an imitation for the literary world. If literature takes place, prose, dance is verse, if it is described, poetry, if it is concealed, drama, if it falters, satire, if it stumbles, purana, thus Kannada should be used to growth,” he said.

A. N. Krishna Rao is credited for bringing up Sir M. Visvesvaraya, who was sitting on the street, by inviting him in and feeding him with rice. There are hundreds of such examples of Karnataka being the land of parents. Music should not be kept away from the field of literature, he opined.

A. N. K. is famous from Holland to Poland. He said that if he is not remembered as an expert in all matters, it would be an insult to this land.

Folk scholar Dr. Hampanahalli Thimmegowda said that though Kannada got classical status, its autonomy could not be retained. It is a tragedy for the state that the Government of Karnataka has failed in this regard. The policy of one language for one country is unacceptable. An attempt to take control of the entire system through one language is dangerous, he said. He added that injustice is being done to the children of other language-speaking states through the imposition of Hindi.

District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. H. L. Malleda said that this conference is a testimony to the fact that when we speak and go out to work on Kannada Nadu-Nudi, the whole-hearted minds come together. I was happy that the names of many important writers of the District were mentioned during the election of the President.
Dr. R. K. Padmanabh has composed and sung 700 lyrics by himself. He is one of the greatest orators. Listening to their songs brings tears to your eyes. Though he has received awards from great stalwarts and greats, the talent that has never been mentioned anywhere has elevated the pride of this district to the top, he said.

MLA A. T. Ramaswamy, who presided over the function, said that Rudrapatna Village, which has given the art stalwarts, is the home of the world of music. Through this field, great artistes have been born who have inspired music and increased the pride of the country. Vidwan R. K. Padmanabha, who is a witness to the fact that intelligence cannot be measured on the basis of marks. We are blessed to have Anakru, who has done enough literary work for 100 births. He wished that this programme of spreading Kannada vibe in this soil gifted to Deve Gowda, who is the Prime Minister of the nation, would be a complete success.

Three works written by various litterateurs were released on the dais of the ceremony. Tahasildar Basavareddappa Ronada, Town Panchayat President Sharada Prathviraj, Vice-President Rashmi Manju, Government Employees’ Association District President E. Krishnegowda, Sahitya Parishat District Honorary Secretary B. R. Bommegowda, Sahitya Parishat President Nayakahalli Manjegavada, Senior Writer Subbu Holechir, Artist Metikere Hiriyanna and others were present.

Banuma Gurudutt sang the national anthem. Nagamani prayed. Sahitya Parishat Taluk President Anil Gowda welcomed the gathering. Vidushi Ranjani Keerthi introduced the President of the conference.
