Will retire from politics. I’m an ‘accidental CM’: HDK

Hassan: Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who once said that politics is not his “cup of tea” and that he “accidentally” came into this field, has announced here on Saturday, August 3, that he is retiring from politics.

Addressing the media he said, “In the current political scenario, there is no place for people with a good heart. Religion has dominated politics. I have voluntarily decided to take a step back from politics as I have no interest in continuing in this field.”

“I’ve become the Chief Minister of the state twice with the blessings of God and the people. I’m not greedy for the CM post. All I want is a place in the hearts of the people. I’m an ‘accidental CM’ and I have no wish to cling to power permanently. I’m satisfied that I got to work as the CM,” he added.

Mocking at Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led government currently in power, HDK said, “When the Congress-Janata Dal (S) state coalition government was functioning, it was a ‘sinful’ government. Now, after they have come to power it’s a ‘holy’ government. Let them run their ‘holy’ government and then we’ll see so as to whom they will make ‘holy’.”

Then, he warned the BJP saying that the people are watching every move they make. “They must understand that people are observing everything they do. The people will decide,” he said.

It can be recalled that after his first stint as CM during the BJP-JD(S) led coalition government, HDK had announced that he was retiring from politics.
