Shivamogga: The state Bharatiya Janata Party Law Unit has urged the Election Commission to reject the nomination papers filed by Madhu Bangarappa. However, the Election Commission has dismissed the objection of the BJP over Madhu’s nomination file.

BJP’s legal advisor Anant Shastry has alleged that when Madhu Bangarappa filed his nomination papers on April 3, the assets he declared with regard to purchase of gold and the value of the land he owns, in the affidavit were wrong and communicated the same to the Election Commission.

However, Deputy Commissioner K A Dayananda, who is also the chief election officer for the district, has made it clear that the job of the Election Commission is to ensure that all the columns of the nomination papers are filled. Monitoring the difference of amount mentioned in the papers is not the responsibility of the commission.

“If the BJP Law Unit finds any discrepancy in the details of amount mentioned in the nomination papers, regarding gold purchase or land value, it should approach the court of law. The Election Commission does not have the right to reject Madhu Bangarappa’s nomination papers,” clarified the Deputy Commissioner.
