Shivamogga/ Hubballi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took decisive action on Monday, expelling veteran leader KS Eshwarappa from its ranks for a period of six years. This move came in response to what the party deemed as actions detrimental to its image, specifically Eshwarappa’s decision to run as an independent candidate from the Shivamogga constituency in Karnataka.

KS Eshwarappa had publicly announced his intention to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate following his son KE Kantesh denied party ticket to contest from Haveri Lok Sabha seat. Instead, the party had chosen to field former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai. In his announcement, Eshwarappa made clear his dissatisfaction, citing a desire to challenge what he perceived as undue influence from former chief minister BS Yediyurappa and his sons within the party.

The Election Commission has assigned a symbol to the former minister. He has been granted the symbol of a farmer standing in front of a pair of sugarcane.
