Shivamogga: The unscientific tax collection in the limits of Municipal Corporation is being condemned by Congress-supported Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, said Former MLA K. B. Prasanna Kumar.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday August 23 he said that currently tax rate has seen increase of 15 per cent. In addition to this, Municipal Corporation has decided on enhancing SR rate to 5 per cent every year which is unscientific and we at the forum have been condemning the same, he added.
Apart from several requests being made, Municipality has not been responding with regard to the issue. While, the officers of the municipality inform us that they fear losing grants under 15th Finance Commission if the tax is not enhanced. Life of people is in chaos due to Covid and such a decision by the municipality is an additional blow to them, he averred. He also noted that tax enhancement is a burden on small time house owners who are forced increased their rent over 20 per cent every year.
