No compromise in quality of ‘Smart City’ work: DC Shivakumar

Shivamogga: “Around Rs 945 crores have been sanctioned for 50 developmental works under the ‘Smart City’ project and directions have already been given to the concerned departments to accurately implement the work,” said Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, November 21, he said, “Due to the recent floods in the district, the ‘Smart City’ developmental projects had come to a halt. Now that the technical staff has been appointed, the issues will be discussed with officials of the concerned departments and the projects will be carried out accurately. The projects have already gained momentum with strict measures laid down, in order to ensure quality of work. Compromise in quality will not be tolerated and stringent action will be taken against those who do not achieve quality work.”

“In collaboration with public and private companies, three projects worth Rs 234 crores will be implemented. The Tank Mohala Park and E-Library facilities have already been completed. Development projects worth Rs 3 crores for 15 conservancies have been initiated. The development of the Nehru Stadium and four other parks are underway and will cost Rs 7.83 crores,” he added.

Further, he said, “Libraries of nine schools, two colleges and four libraries will be transformed into ‘Smart Libraries’ at the cost of Rs 5 crores. Work on a 108 km-stretch road has been initiated, which comes up to Rs 538 crores, along with a 2.80 km heritage walk. As many as seven parks will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crores. A survey for a retaining wall across the Tunga river has already been carried out and this will cost Rs 130 crores. Projects worth of Rs 123 crores are already in the tendering process and projects costing Rs 63 crores are in the DPR stage.”

Speaking about developing the Gandhi Park, DC Shivakumar said, “The Gandhi Park situated in the heart of the city will be developed with a Wildlife Interpretation Centre spread across 2.5 acres of land, Science Park facility etc. The repair and development works of the Gandhi Park will be carried out at a cost of Rs 10 crores.”

Meanwhile, he informed that Public Relations Officer (PRO) M K Ratnakar had been appointed to address all grievances submitted by the public.
