Shivamogga: Deputy Commissioner M Lokesh on June 29, visited the spot on Agumbe Ghat that suffered a landslide and inspected the safety measures implemented there.
He also inspected the whole stretch of Agumbe Ghat and instructed the officials to undertake safety measures to prevent such occurrences during monsoons.
For the time being, sand-filled bags are being stacked to prevent further erosion at the site of a landslide at the 7th curve of the ghat. Heavy vehicles are barred from taking the route to prevent loosening of the soil and presently only light and small vehicles are allowed to ply on this stretch of the road.
The deputy commissioner instructed the officials to undertake 24-hour monitoring at the spot and report the progress of the works carried out every day.
He also sought a report from highway officials to identify places that are likely to suffer a landslide and to affix warning signs to warn the vehicles about the risk. He also instructed them to take measures to prevent rainwater from flowing onto the road.
National Highways Executive Engineer Subbarama Holla, Tahshildar Ananda Nayka, RTO Shivaraj Patil, Panchayat Raj AEE Janardhana and National Highways AEE Ravi among others accompanied the DC during his official inspection.
