Shivamogga: Deputy Commissioner Shivamogga district, K A Dayananda has issued an order to all the hotels and resorts in the district not to accept any bookings from guests who hail from other constituencies which will go to polls on April 18 and 23.
The measure is taken to ensure that a maximum number of people turn out for voting during the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka.
Reportedly, the hotel and resort owners, as well as tour operators and home stay owners are ordered to verify the address proof and voter ID cards of the guests before giving them accommodation.
Speaking to Times of India, DC K A Dayananda said, “All voters must exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy. Keeping this in mind, I have issued such an order”.
Meanwhile, the hotel owners in Kodagu and Hassan have taken it on themselves not to entertain guests on April 18 and 23. Bookings are being cancelled in both the districts during the above mentioned dates.
