Shivamogga: Deputy Commissioner Dr. R. Selvamani has issued an order declaring that it is an offence to lure voters by giving cash and other items during elections and such acts are punishable as per law.
Transferring money in any manner to lure voters, distribution of various equipments, gift vouchers, SIM card balance, making arrangements for travel, distribution of food items, distribution of liquor and other beverages, refueling of vehicles in any manner is an offence punishable under the IPC and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
“No equipment or material shall be stored or transported in large quantities without proper documentation,” he stated in the order.
The Deputy Commissioner has issued an order prohibiting any person from promoting advertisements in a public place or in a manner visible to the public during elections without the prior permission of the competent authority.
The Deputy Commissioner has issued an order stating that while printing any election pamphlet, placard, banner, buntyags, fax, poster, etc., during the elections, it should mandatorily mention the name, address, printing number of the printer in it.
Information regarding printing should be provided in the prescribed format within 3 days and a copy of the material should be mandatorily provided to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The violation is in violation of Section 127(A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, he stated in the order.
Prior permission from the competent authority must be obtained before telecasting election advertisements on cable network or TV channels, according to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
Static surveillance teams, video surveillance teams and flying squads have already been formed for a smooth and fair election process. He urged the public to cooperate in conducting free, transparent and peaceful elections.
