KARNATAKA: A 32-year-old laborer, Bheemanna, has been arrested for allegedly strangling and murderng his wife, Sharana Basamma, 25, in Yadgir district’s Shahapur taluka. The incident occurred on July 25, but Bheemanna was only recently apprehended following forensic evidence.

- Incident: Bheemanna reportedly pressured his wife to sleep with other men to have a child, as he claimed to be impotent. When she refused and threatened to inform her parents, he allegedly strangled her.
- Discovery: Initially, Bheemanna claimed that Basamma had suffered a heart attack and took her to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. A subsequent CFSL report confirmed asphyxiation due to strangulation.
- Investigation: The police, initially informed by the hospital of the suspicious death, found incriminating audio messages on Bheemanna’s phone, revealing his demands for his wife to sleep with other men to repay his debts.
Bheemanna has been charged and sent to judicial custody. The case highlights severe issues of domestic violence and exploitation.
