MANDYA: Belluru town in Mandya district was tense Monday night after a group allegedly from the minority community attacked and wounded 28-year-old tailor Abhilash, following a confrontation when a car hit his motorbike Saturday evening. Sources report that the group accosted and assaulted Abhilash as he was returning from his shop Monday evening, and later entered nearby colonies, abusing residents.
Abhilash was admitted to a private hospital, prompting residents to rush to the Belluru police station to lodge a complaint. The complainants alleged that police delayed filing an FIR, leading to protests outside the police station. “Based on a complaint lodged by Abhilash’s father, we have registered an FIR under IPC section 307,” Mandya SP N Yatish said Tuesday. No arrests have been made so far.
