In a significant operation against female foeticide in Mandya district, police arrested 12 individuals involved in an illegal racket conducting sex determination tests and female foeticide. Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladand announced that the arrests were made by a special team formed in response to increasing reports of such crimes.

The key masterminds, Abhishek from M Shettahalli in Pandavapura taluk, Mandya, and Veeresh from Channagiri in Davanagere district, were arrested on Tuesday. Following their interrogation, an additional 10 suspects, including four women, were also taken into custody. The police seized two scanning machines, three cars, and several smartphones. These arrests bring the total number of suspects apprehended in connection to this racket to 30, while 12 others remain at large.

The accused are linked to five registered cases of foeticide across the state, with three in Mandya district, one in Mysuru (Udayagiri), and one in Bengaluru (Byappanahalli). The police and health department were under pressure to act following multiple reports of such crimes in the region.

A recent decoy operation by the health department in Nagamangala taluk led to crucial information about Abhishek, who had been implicated in earlier cases, including a foeticide case in Melukote taluk. This information resulted in the formation of a special team to pursue and apprehend those involved.
