Mandya: A sophisticated fake liquor manufacturing racket was exposed on Sunday during a raid by the Excise Department in BT Lalita Nayak Layout, Mandya district.
Operating out of a rented house under the name Kamadhenu Comforts, the gang produced counterfeit liquor disguised as premium brands. Authorities seized 590 litres of spirit, 30 litres of fake liquor, and machinery for manufacturing liquor sachets and printing counterfeit labels. Brands like Hundred Pipers, MC Whiskey, Black and White, Teacher’s Scotch, Imperial Blue, and Silver Cup were illegally replicated, complete with Karnataka government and Excise Department emblems.
Excise DySP Somashekar stated that the premises were fully equipped for large-scale production. Acting on a tip-off, officials raided the site, arresting one person while others involved remain absconding. A sticker-making machine and other raw materials used for falsifying labels were also confiscated.
Authorities suspect the operation is linked to a larger network distributing fake liquor to local bars and restaurants, posing severe risks to public health. Investigations are ongoing to identify all individuals involved and the establishments sourcing these products.
This bust highlights the critical need for stricter monitoring and enforcement to prevent counterfeit liquor circulation, which endangers consumer safety.
