Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar has urged authorities to take strong legal action against those involved in the sale of fake and unauthorized lottery tickets, despite the complete ban on lotteries in Karnataka. Illegal lottery operations continue to thrive, with tickets being brought in from neighboring states like Kerala, where lotteries are allowed.
In a meeting with the flying squad monitoring illegal lotteries and ‘matka’ gambling, Kumar emphasized the importance of decisive action against violators. He highlighted that in 2024 alone, four cases have been registered concerning the sale of unauthorized lottery tickets, and several residents have been tricked into purchasing fake tickets.
Kumar directed tahsildars to closely monitor the situation in their respective taluks and take swift action against any illegal activities related to lottery sales. As part of a broader public awareness initiative, Kumar also stressed the need to educate people on the dangers of participating in illegal lottery schemes. He affirmed that legal action will be taken against both sellers and buyers involved in the illicit trade.
