Mandya: With the onset of summer, Deputy Commissioner Kumara has instructed officials to take proactive steps to prevent drinking water shortages in the district. Speaking at the District Urban Development Progress Review meeting on Tuesday, he highlighted that only 13% of residents have paid their water usage fees. Officials have been directed to recover pending dues and ensure regular water quality testing throughout the summer.

Kumara also ordered authorities to issue notices to long-term defaulters who have not paid rent for government-owned shops and take legal action if necessary. Addressing housing concerns, he pointed out that of the 5,312 identified homeless and landless individuals in the 2015 survey, 4,483 are eligible for benefits. However, with no available government plots in the city, he instructed officials to explore alternative arrangements and submit updated category-wise beneficiary lists in the next meeting.

Further, he stressed the immediate repair of public and community toilets under urban local bodies. He also noted the slow progress in property registrations under the e-property system and urged officials to create awareness among residents. Failure to implement this system could lead to legal consequences, he warned.

Additionally, Kumara emphasized the importance of scientific waste segregation and disposal under the Swachh Bharat Mission, urging officials to ensure compliance with proper procedures.
