Mandya: K.R. Anil Kumar, a member of the Thaggahalli Gram Panchayat in Mandya taluk, was arrested by Lokayukta police on Monday for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 to clear a toilet construction bill.
The incident began when contractor Channabasavegowda submitted an application to the gram panchayat for the clearance of a ₹5.5 lakh bill related to the construction of a toilet at the government higher primary school in Kolkaranadoddi village. Channabasavegowda alleged that Anil Kumar demanded a bribe to process the payment.
After receiving the complaint, Lokayukta officials set up a trap and caught Anil Kumar while he was accepting the bribe at a private hotel in Mandya city. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DYSP Sunil Kumar, with inspectors Mohan Reddy and Jayarathna, and staff members Mahadevaswamy, Shankar, and Sharath.
Anil Kumar has been remanded to judicial custody, and an investigation is currently underway.
