Mandya: A leopardess that had been instilling fear among the residents of Madla village in Mandya taluk was successfully captured on Tuesday. Locals were hesitant to work in their fields due to the frequent sightings of the predator.
After discovering fresh pug marks near farmland, villagers promptly informed the forest department. Responding to their concerns, officials set up a cage in the area on Saturday. By Tuesday morning, the leopard, estimated to be around two years old, was safely trapped. It was later released into the wild, confirmed Mandya Taluk’s Range Forest Officer, Shailaja.
Expressing relief, local resident Chetan stated, “We were afraid to step into our fields after spotting the pug marks. Now that the leopard has been caught, we can resume our work without worry.” He also mentioned that three cubs were seen along with the leopardess, urging forest officials to capture them soon for everyone’s safety.
