Over 120 people, including school students, have been hospitalized due to food poisoning after consuming meals from a hotel in Malavalli, Mandya district. Tragically, a 13-year-old student hailing from Meghalaya succumbed, while another student remains in critical condition at a Mysuru hospital.

Mandya Superintendent of Police, Mallikarjuna Baladandi, personally inspected the location and reviewed CCTV footage. Following preliminary findings, he directed the immediate shutdown of the hotel. Food samples have been dispatched to the forensic laboratory, and officials are awaiting test results, informed Deputy Commissioner Kumara. He added that nearly 40 students continue to receive treatment in various hospitals.

The district health department, along with administrative officials, has launched a thorough probe. A police team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) is handling the criminal investigation. Three individuals, taken into custody on Sunday, were released on bail the next day.

The incident is linked to Gokula Vidyasamsthe, a day school located in T Kagepura village. Reports suggest that the institution, although licensed as a day school, was unlawfully operating a residential facility. A formal notice has been issued to the management, and Block Education Officer Uma has requested a comprehensive inquiry.

It is alleged that businessman Pushpendra Kumar arranged food for around 150 people from the hotel as part of Holi festivities. The surplus food was later distributed to the school’s students. Additionally, approximately 30 farm workers who dined at the same hotel also reported illness.
