Proposal for Second Airport in Mandya Gains Momentum

Proposal For Second Airport In Mandya Gains Momentum

MANDYA: The Karnataka state government is considering the construction of a second airport near Bengaluru, and there is increasing demand to locate it in Mandya district. Experts and the public believe that establishing an airport in Mandya, particularly near Nagamangala, could accelerate the development of the Old Mysuru region. This area is strategically located, connecting Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Mysuru, and Hassan districts.

K Prabhakar, president of the Mandya district Chamber of Commerce and Industries, highlighted the potential economic benefits, stating that a new airport would spur industrial activities similar to how Devanahalli transformed after the establishment of Bengaluru’s international airport.

Girish Baga, an education activist from Mysuru, supported the choice of Nagamangala over green agricultural zones like Srirangapatna, emphasizing Nagamangala’s connectivity and its potential to foster economic growth, tourism, and educational institutions.

Mandya district minister N Cheluvarayaswamy expressed intent to discuss the proposal with the chief minister, underscoring Mandya’s suitability for the new airport and its potential to drive regional development.
