A deeply tragic sequence of events has unfolded in Mandya district, where a man died by suicide after his elderly mother went missing—only for her body to be discovered a day after his funeral.
The incident occurred in Bookahalli Koppal near Ganjigere in KR Pete taluk. The deceased have been identified as Subhash (50) and his mother Mahadevamma (75), wife of Huchegowda.
Mother missing for days
According to police, Mahadevamma had left home around 11 days ago and did not return. Concerned about her disappearance, Subhash had filed a missing complaint with the Karnataka Police at KR Pete Rural Police Station.
Despite efforts, there was no trace of her for over a week.
Distress leads to tragedy
Distressed by his mother’s prolonged absence, Subhash allegedly consumed poison on Tuesday, ending his life. His death left the family and local community in shock.
Body found after funeral
In a tragic twist, Mahadevamma’s body was discovered in a decomposed state in a nearby sugarcane field on Wednesday—just a day after Subhash’s funeral.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
Investigation underway
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of Mahadevamma’s death and the events leading up to both tragedies.
The incident has cast a sombre mood over the region, highlighting the emotional toll of missing person cases on families.
