Mandya: Heavy rains in the Cauvery basin have led to a significant increase in water levels at the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) Reservoir in Mandya district. With approximately 1,70,000 cusecs of water expected to be released into the Cauvery river on July 31, authorities have decided to close several popular tourist spots in Srirangapatna taluk for safety reasons.
Affected Tourist Areas
Due to the high water inflow and the anticipated intense outflow, several key tourist destinations will be closed to the public. These include:
- KRS Reservoir
- Brindavan Garden
- Paschimvahini
- Gosai Ghat
- Balamuri Edamuri
- Wellesley Bridge
- Bathing Ghat near Nimishamba Temple
- Ranganathittu
Additionally, access to the KRS Reservoir from the reservoir to the Kaveri outlet will be restricted.
Safety Measures
District Commissioner Kumar has issued an order prohibiting public and tourist entry to these areas on August 1 and 2. This decision aims to ensure the safety and security of both residents and visitors in light of the increased water flow and potential hazards.
Importance of Compliance
Residents and tourists are strongly advised to follow these restrictions to protect themselves and others. The closure of these sites is a precautionary measure to avoid accidents and ensure that emergency services can operate effectively if needed.
Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Visitors are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments and adhere to the guidelines issued by local officials.
