Mandya: Entry and parking fees at the popular Brindavan Gardens near Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam in Srirangapatna taluk have been sharply increased from June 1, drawing criticism from visitors and farmers’ groups.
Tourists above six years now pay ₹100 (up from ₹50), while children below six are charged ₹50 (up from ₹10). Vehicle parking charges have also doubled: ₹20 for two-wheelers, ₹100 for cars and jeeps (previously ₹50), and up to ₹200 for buses.
This marks the second attempt at fee revision in two months. In May, a similar hike was rolled back after protests by the Raitha Sangha and public backlash. However, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNN) has now reinstated the new rates, citing increased maintenance costs and electricity charges.
Adding to public ire is the continued toll collection on Brindavan Main Road, including the flyover. Farmers’ groups allege this toll is being collected illegally, but officials remain firm. The toll for cars and jeeps has doubled from ₹50 to ₹100.
CNN Superintendent Engineer Raghuram clarified that the rates follow new tender rules and no official order was issued to reduce them earlier. Officials say the fees were last revised in 2019 and that the recent hike, approved by the CNN Board chaired by CM Siddaramaiah, is essential for operational sustainability.
