A 25-year-old tuition teacher was apprehended after allegedly eloping with his minor student in Mandya two months ago, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, leading to a kidnapping case being filed against the teacher, Abhishek Gowda. Police revealed that the accused, a married man with a two-year-old child, had abducted the girl on November 23.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Division) Lokesh B J stated that the girl was rescued on January 5 from Malavalli Taluk in Mandya district. Investigations revealed that the teacher had been tutoring the girl regularly before the incident.

Authorities have charged Gowda with kidnapping and rape under relevant legal provisions. The case, initially registered at JP Nagar police station, highlights ongoing concerns about student safety in such settings.

The accused is now in custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
