Mangaluru: Ayan Mendon, an 11-year-old mountaineer from Mangaluru, has once again brought international recognition to his hometown by successfully scaling Mount Kenya, the world’s third-highest mountain. The latest achievement, completed on December 30, 2025, adds to his growing list of extraordinary feats in high-altitude mountaineering at an age when most children are still discovering their interests.
Ayan belongs to a Mangaluru-based family now settled in Dubai. He is the son of Vani Mendon, a native of Attavar, Mangaluru. Despite living abroad, the family has maintained strong ties with their roots, and Ayan’s achievements have been a source of pride for the coastal Karnataka region.
A remarkable journey that began at six
