14 Remanded Over Mangaluru Salon Attack, Ministers Condemn Incident
Mangaluru: A court on Friday remanded 14 individuals to judicial custody until February 7 in connection with an attack on a unisex salon in the Bejai area of Mangaluru.
On Thursday, members of the Rama Sene, led by local leader Prasad Attavar, allegedly stormed the salon, accusing it of illegal activities. The activists vandalized the establishment, smashing furniture and glass, and reportedly threatened the female staff and other individuals present.
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara condemned the incident, directing the police to arrest the culprits immediately. “Such acts must not occur. Business operations should not face disruption. No one is above the law,” he emphasized. Parameshwara urged that complaints about illegal activities should be filed with authorities, who are responsible for taking appropriate action.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, in charge of Mangaluru district, strongly criticized the attack. He described the actions as hooliganism under the guise of the Sri Rama Sene, cautioning against tarnishing Lord Ram’s name. “Taking the law into one’s hands, causing destruction, and indulging in violence is unacceptable. Stringent action will be taken against offenders,” Rao said, warning that such behavior could harm Mangaluru’s development.
Defending the act, Prasad Attavar claimed the attack was intended to “rescue” young girls allegedly trapped in illegal activities. However, salon owner Sudheer refuted the allegations, stating the business has been running lawfully for two years and accused the attackers of planting evidence.
