Vanitha Shetty, a mother from Jarandagudde in Kallige village, Bantwal taluk, has been working tirelessly to support her family. Her situation is so dire that she struggles even to pay rent. Hoping to secure a better future for her three daughters, she sold all her jewelry and took out a loan to buy a house. However, just two months after the purchase, continuous heavy rain caused the walls of her new home to collapse, leaving the family devastated. Now, Vanitha’s lap is the only shelter for her children, as her dream of providing a secure home has been crushed.

Vanitha never saw her daughters as a burden and was determined to educate them, despite the family’s poverty, to bring them into the mainstream of society. The recent heavy rains, however, have shattered this dream. The house, which was meant to be the foundation of their future, collapsed before her eyes.

The cries of this distressed mother and her daughters have yet to reach local representatives, sparking public outrage over the lack of a humanitarian response to rehabilitate the family. Teachers have shown their humanity by preparing petitions in the hope that some organizations or individuals might come forward to help.

Despite their hardships, Vanitha’s daughters have excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities, earning the admiration of their teachers. The teachers’ support has given Vanitha a glimmer of hope during these trying times. Yet, she remains anxious about whether she can continue to provide her children with the education they deserve, given their precarious living situation.
