Adani Airports surpass 6.8 million DigiYatra transactions, expands service to Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram
Mangaluru, March 12: In a significant step towards digitising air travel, Adani Airports Holdings Ltd (AAHL) has announced the inclusion of Mangaluru International Airport and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in the DigiYatra initiative of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). With this addition, all seven operational airports under AAHL now offer seamless, paperless travel through facial recognition technology.
Expanding DigiYatra for enhanced passenger convenience
The DigiYatra initiative, launched on August 15, 2023, aims to provide a contactless and paperless airport experience for passengers. The system, powered by facial recognition technology (FRT), allows travellers to move through various checkpoints—such as entry gates, security checks, and boarding gates—without requiring physical ID verification.
According to Jeet Adani, Director, AAHL, the initiative first rolled out at five airports: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Guwahati. With the recent integration of Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram, more passengers can now experience faster, secure, and hassle-free travel.
“Offering the DigiYatra experience at our airports underscores AAHL’s dedication to adopting innovative technologies that enhance passenger convenience and security. We have seen a substantial rise in adoption, with some of our airports recording a DigiYatra utilisation as high as 37% in a single day. More travellers are choosing the convenience and efficiency of this service, redefining their airport experience,” said Jeet Adani.
How DigiYatra is transforming air travel
The DigiYatra initiative represents a technological leap in Indian aviation. By using biometric-based verification, the system eliminates the need for physical boarding passes and ID cards, ensuring a swift and seamless airport experience.
Key benefits of DigiYatra include:
✅ Contactless & Paperless Travel: Eliminates the need for physical documents.
✅ Enhanced Security: Biometric data verification ensures accurate passenger identification.
✅ Reduced Waiting Time: Quicker passage through security and check-in points.
✅ Eco-Friendly Initiative: Supports sustainability by minimising paper use.
AAHL has witnessed steady growth in DigiYatra adoption, with increasing numbers of passengers opting for digital check-in and authentication to streamline their travel experience.
