“Amrit Bharat Scheme Speeds Up Railway Flyover Construction in DK”
Mangaluru: As part of the Union Government’s Amrit Bharat scheme, four railway flyovers are under construction between Mangaluru and Subrahmanya in the Mysuru railway division, aimed at boosting connectivity and ensuring safety. The project is expected to be completed by March-end.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 26, 2024, the Amrit Bharat initiative has allocated ₹41,000 crore to upgrade railway infrastructure nationwide. This includes the revamp of 554 railway stations and the construction of 1,500 overbridges and underpasses.
As part of this scheme, flyovers are being built at Kodimbala (Kadaba taluk), Bajakere (Nekkiladi village), Purusharakatte (Narimogaru village), and Gadipila (Puttur taluk), with a total budget of ₹24 crore. Construction at Kodimbala, Bajakere, and Purusharakatte is 60% complete, with an expected finish by February-end, while the Gadipila flyover is set for completion in April.
Each flyover will stand 6.53 meters above the railway tracks, with a 7.5-meter width and a 10-meter length, alongside concrete access roads. Bengaluru-based S V Constructions is executing the project. Initial delays due to weather challenges have been overcome, and work is progressing swiftly.
Electrification of railway stations and platform elevation in the region is already completed, paving the way for seamless rail operations.
Local leader Medappagowda welcomed the development, noting that these flyovers will significantly reduce waiting times at railway gates. He credited the initiative to former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s appeals, while urging current MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta to pursue further railway improvements.
Project engineer Govardhan Reddy affirmed that efforts are underway to fast-track completion, following railway department directives.
